In parts 1 & 2 of “Couch Cushion Architecture; A Critical Analysis”, the folks at Build relentlessly lampoon the oftentimes ridiculous nature of design criticism. And their subject? As you might have guessed: the couch forts that we loved and built and dreamed in as children.
I appreciate the humor, but seeing an architect-friend potentially embarrassed by such a blatant misappropriation of his jargon is far more satisfying.

A brilliant synergy between the weighted foundation and the light tensile structure, this project impressed us with its attenuation of structure and bright interior spaces. The courtyard and formal entry are also well thought-out and provide a clear means of way-finding. Grade A+

Oh lord. So many restaurants with drool-worthy food. I’ve only been to two of them so far — The French Laundry (#32) and wd~50 (#45) — but I’d like to take every chance to broaden that list.
It’s surprising how far The French Laundry has fallen in the rankings. I think Thomas Keller’s playing favorites with Per Se. Boooo.
Oh well… anyone up for Eleven Madison Park next time I’m in town?
