Triptrop NYC is a small mapping application by Jonathan Soma that maps the expected travel time from one point in New York to another using the NY Subway system. Just type in an address and it returns a map with an heatmap-like overlay.

I picked the gift up from the post office today (it arrived while I was out of town), and was immediately greeted by a monster-sized RedditGifts label on the box. When I opened it, I found the most wonderful and telling gifts any Redditor could hope to receive.

Inside were 3 bottles of beer local to Westminister, MA, candy canes, hand-sanitizing wipes (“to protect against swine flu!”), some packages of Dunkin Donuts coffee and lotion from Bath & Body Works for any females in the vicinity. All of this was accompanied by a sincere, typed letter, renewed holiday cheer, and my undying gratitude.

Human Being t-shirt (via Owltastic)

I am in love with this Human Being shirt from the UK based Origin68, and once I’m not suffering from Post-Holiday Broke As Hell Syndrome™, I will order at least five. The icons, the ingredients — it’s sexy and geeky, all at once.

Pac-man Explained (via reddit)

rooktakesqueen:

I had a course in video game design and AI in graduate school. One of the first things the professor (who is awesome) asked us to do was… “Describe Pac-Man.”
Most of our responses talked about the game mechanics, the fact that the player travels through a series of mazes filled with dots, the player tries to “eat” all the dots by moving over them, and is chased by four ghosts, who can be eaten for a short time if the player eats a Power Pill placed in several locations in the maze, etc.
He then said to us, that’s true, but that’s only part of the answer. If he’d given the same question to a philosophy or literary criticism class, rather than a class full of engineers, their response may have been something like “Pac-Man is a metaphor for the futility of modern life. The player exists only to consume the maximum amount of material posessions possible, and the game can never be won, it only gets faster and more difficult with each stage until the player inevitably dies.”
